Figment and illusion
Clawing for anything to hold onto until we feel
Commercial and perfection
Though, disillusionment is all I can see
With daughters growing thinner than ever
And, sons losing sight of what strength really means
Risen from the dust
Given no instinct other than the freewill we breathe
What happened to us
Not only losing sight and faith
But, the knowledge that we weren't created without reason as are beasts
Rather with conscience and wisdom and the ability to discern
What's right from what's wrong in all we learn and later do
There's got to be another soul out there
Witnessing our souls turn sour
Wishing still those very souls where what they used to be
Before the dark hour
Rusted the dust of love
Into nothing other than a lustful powder
We use as makeup to cover up the insecurities
While nailing our shortfalls on others
Why can't we all just find an ounce of kindness
No matter how small inside us and give it without losing ourselves
And, give without remembering our own self-righteousness
Only to fall victim and seek restitution
When what is indebted to us
Isn't returned in full portion
It's time to evaluate what makes us what we are
And, reconsider what we've become
So lost in lust
And, covered in the dust of arrogance
The feeling of our own importance
And, how that feeling has eclipsed all who came before us
And, is sure to hide the truth from all who follow in our footsteps
