SHIFTY EYES



I was thief stealing glances

Though I longed for a stare

Our eyes did dances

In a crowded room

Taking chances

Of exposure to our groove

Rhythm and blues

Tap dances and prances

Ivory like pearls shone

Blinding everyone

Apple of cheeks, flushed

Full of words unspoken

Though we tried to hide

The energy we felt

Beamed from the inside

Energy thick like whipped cream

Overwhelmed my being

Is anyone seeing  . . .  this?



Shifty eyes oh so honest

Why do you try to lie?

Shifty eyes oh so happy

Why even cry?

Read the truth in my retina

Swim in the pool of my tears

For they will not shed

For when I see you

I am tucked in joys bed

Please wake me now!

I cannot afford dreams

Of the wet kind

That will blow my cover.

That will blow my mind.

So aware of your presence

As if no one else was there

At one time, I locked eyes with you

I just did not care

It was worth the risk

As time stood still

Like an eternity

Yet it seemed so brisk

I could feel your magnetism

Pulling me near,

Almost hearing your heart beat

It gave me an exhilarating scare

The honesty between us

Was too much to bear.

It was nice seeing you.
