Life in the Mountains

I was prepared for something that’s fabricated

I felt assured and ignorantly believed it all

Nothing could have prepared me for reality

I made it over the hill and saw a mountain

The sight was overwhelming and unanticipated

Its height towered over any wall

The apex was my goal of infallibility

I followed the spiraled road around the mountain

My progress started good and steady

I walked awestricken at the dazzling view

Then I slipped into my complacency

This mountain trip was leisure assured

I thought I could do anything and was ready

My thinking however was too askew

Too pompous to see the inevitable fallacy

The gravity of success left my pressured

As I climbed an avalanche started to build

Near the top and unguided I was doomed

Anger, sadness, and apathy left me for ruin

The mountain collapsed all around me

The damage I reined left everyone chilled

In a world that is gray and gloomed

At the bottom I’m at my own reunion

The mountain, now a rock no one can see
