The girl who sleeps in hell

Life just isn't enough, you need to love as well.
You know it's hard to sit and watch the girl who sleeps in hell

A dozen pills, a mortal sin
A chard of glass, it cuts your skin
The deep dark red that paints your bathroom floor.

The open skies, the window stain
Your empty eyes, are full of pain
The flashing blue lights heading for your door

Life just isn't enough, you need to love as well
It turns out I never knew, the girl who sleeps in hell.

Your timid voice, your broken speech
A cry for help, blood sucking leach
The silent scream as you're wheeled down the hall

Those bitter words, your sharpened tongue,
your perfect life, it all went wrong
The gospel that you preach is scattered on the wall.

Life just isn't enough, you need to love as well
I'll give everything I have to save the girl who sleeps in hell.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this one night, sat beside my close friend in a hospital after she did something I perceived to be very stupid. It made me realise how far away from depression I am, but also how depression can easily get the better of you.

Appreciated!

I really enjoyed the three line stanza approach and the repetition of the main couplet. The topic really speaks to me and i think you executed the outside perspective perfectly. I just posted a poem on here with a similar topic if you'd like to check it out! Keep writing!

My mother was a rainbow

My father turned her grey

they loved me like a sky lantern

they watched me fly away
