I AM GRATEFUL

I AM GRATEFUL
(T. Beechey)

I am grateful for so many things: the morning song the early bird sings
The sun that rises through the trees, all the birds and all the bees
A friend that knocks upon my door
These are things I'm grateful for

I am grateful for so many things: counting the number of telephone rings
Folks that kid but never tease, the gentle tinkling of keys
The completion of a daily chore
These are things I'm grateful for

All these things I'm grateful for
Each and every day
And this only just begins our tour
There's more along the way

I am grateful for so many things: when a little bird first spreads its wings
Each cloud which floats upon the breeze, each ripple formed upon the seas
And as each one laps upon the shore
These are things I'm grateful for

I am grateful for so many things: the summers, falls, winters, and springs
No skinned elbows or scraped knees, no rapid falling of degrees
Declarations of peace,not war
These are things I'm grateful for

All these things I'm grateful for
Every minute, every hour
The things which no man could ignore
Lest his spirit be devoured

I am grateful for so many things: each breath we take, what joy it brings!
When a cure is found for any disease, every "thank you" and every "please"
A cat's meow and a lion's roar
These are things I'm grateful for

I am grateful for so many things: the yesterdays of queens and kings
Written pages of histories, along with all biographies
Of all these characters of yore
These are things I'm grateful for

All these things I'm grateful for
And even the dimmest soul
Could sense the loss to the core
Had these things not played a role

I am grateful for so many things: rocking chairs and tire swings
The moment when each side agrees, all of these --- yes,all of these!
All of these aned so many more
These are things I'm grateful for

I like the rhyming scheme a lot, and how you held it throughout the poem. Sometimes rhyming diminishes the meaning of the poem and makes it sound overly childish, but here it doesn't. It balances out perfectly.

my favorite line was "The things which no man could ignore
Lest his spirit be devoured"
i love how you worded it.

anyway, good job. keep it up.
