LIGHTS AGLOW ON A DISTANT SHORE

LIGHTS AGLOW ON A DISTANT SHORE

(T. Beechey)

A young man gets his calling and is headed off to war

And,although he finds appalling just what the fighting's for

He knows he has a duty to the people he must save

And,as he laces up each boot,he's determined to be brave

A soldier's tears are never seen

But don't think that they're not shed

They only come in between

The fallen white and risen red

When all around is fast asleep

That's when the droplets pour

When thinking of the ones who keep

Lights aglow on a distant shore

A young woman's relocated to a strange and foreign land

Where she knows she'll be hated every time she lends a hand

But she has an obligation to the country which she serves

So,she goes into this nation upon a steeled bed of nerves

A soldier's tears are never seen

But don't think that they're not shed

They only come in between

The fallen white and risen red

When all around is fast asleep

That's when the droplets pour

When thinking of the ones who keep

Lights aglow on a distant shore

In amidst the throes of battle as the sky erupts in light

The ground,it seems to rattle with each motion in the fight

But the man and woman are as one even though they've yet to meet

They're here until their work is done and, till then, they'll face the heat

A soldier's tears are never seen

But don't think that they're not shed

They only come in between

The fallen white and risen red

When all around is fast asleep

That's when the droplets pour

When thinking of the ones who keep

Lights aglow on a distant shore
