A beggar approaches the empty sanctuary in fear. He shows reverence in his own way, and kneels as he expects not to speak to God, but to hear Him. A feeling overwhelms him while birds sing here and there and the noises of mankind are made audible from a distance. If all was silence, God would be dumb.
