As i lay tucked in my bed, with my dog beside my head
the thought crosses my mind that pretty soon she could be dead.
she is 15 now and getting older, and i remind her of my love each day just because i hold her.
i hold her when she sleeps at night, and when its dark and there is no light
i hold her when she gets scared in the street.
i tell her that i love her, and i wish she would live forever
and one day i will miss her tripping up my feet.
but i rescued her from hell, along with her sister.
and she passed away soon after, and we all really miss her.
but one baby still remains, and she has been loved unconditionally
she gets strokes and pets and kisses, even when she pees accidentally.
her bones arent getting stronger
she isnt getting younger
and although she isnt in pain right now, that time is getting closer.
as i hold your tiny paws, and your sleeping legs stop twitching
i sit there in my bed, very silently wishing.
wishing you will know, with all of your heart
that even when you are gone, we will never be apart.
you brought joy into my life, and you loved me with persistance
and i will love you until the last day of your beautiful existence
Excellent poem to celebrate
Excellent poem to celebrate the doggie who loves you and whom you love. I have an old chihuahua, Zoey, who is starting to age and tire out easily. I, too, dread the moment when she is called away, to her foreverest home, but I truly believe that I will see her again. Both Isaiah and Saint Paul seem to imply this in assertions about the restoration, not the replacement, of all creation. And we know there is a lion and a lamb there; and Revelation suggests that Jesus owns a horse. I do not try to force my faith on anyone, but I do like to share what comforts me.
Starward
