The Choice

I can’t think. My breath leaves.

I can’t see. My heart grieves.

Light goes dark, head is pounding.

Ringing, screaming, echoes sounding.

I picture you slipping from my sight.

Brightest day becomes like night.

My past mistakes just may be

The thing which takes you from me.

Fear is creeping in my heart

That we won’t finish what’s yet to start.

This one blemish, one dark cloud

Has got me screaming oh so loud.

Crimson tears stream down my face,

For one whom my heart won’t replace.

Yet I know the fault is mine

Rolling with embittered swine.

This one thing could be our

Downfall if we give it power.

I never wished to make you choose.

I fear this game I may loose.

I have to let things lie where the will.

My heart both trapped and unfilled.

I will not linger should you tell me go,

I’ll just cry for the love I’ll never know.

Or maybe one I wouldn’t let you show…

A lovely poem, full of expectation. loved your choice of words and the rhyming. A good read this poem it speaks greatly of your distress and regret in being honest about your past relationships.
