To both those girls who laughed and rode my knee
And that namesake boy whose heart was full of smiles
Pray tell me, children, what's become of thee?
And what's become of all those weary miles?
It seems my ears had mem'ries of their own,
And both eyes hungered yet for one more glance
Denied for now, perchance have I outgrown
My heart's appeal to win another chance?
Yet now a flame within that burns so bright
Has torched those old desires, wants and schemes
And brought me far beyond my darkest night
To snuff forever all my carnal dreams
Redeemed at last and finally heading home
I bid adieu, this empty catacomb!
