Ode To Aspiring Writers

Where to start? How to end? And what goes in between?

A song? A poem? A storybook? A science-fiction scene?

My aspirations started, in my youth of long ago,

For putting words together much like Edgar Allen Poe.

Thru all my years of growing up, no matter where I'd roam,

I had to find the time to write a story or a poem.

One day I felt a real strong urge and thought, is this a start?

But then, alas, those stubborn words stayed locked within my heart.

Each event within my life that knocked upon my door,

Demanded I express it in a poem or a memoir.

But every time I went to write that simple poem or story,

The gears that gave my brain its drive ignored my pleas for glory.

Crossword puzzles posed no task regardless of their level,

But words to write a poem or book came harder than the devil!

But now the time had finally come, for singleness of mind,

I'll start off with a simple ode regardless of its kind.

If my imagination would cooperate with me,

I'd try a novel of intrigue or just a mystery.

But then, I might be smarter starting on the bottom floor,

I’ll write a simple letter to the local EDITOR!
