The Gravity of the Moon

I can still feel the curls

in your hair babyboy

as I put my palm and fingers

through it's perfect memory

your right cheekbone

pressing against mine

the smell of innocence

amongst your skin

and the brilliance of your eyes

is a heaven sent remedy

I remember being afraid

the night I brought you home

that in the morning sun

I'd find you just a dream

so I held you like a secret

and begged the world to have mercy

on the most magnificent thing

I had ever seen

Looking back it seems as though

every precious heart beat of yours

was just a knock on heaven's door

much to soon

"he" hath come for you

like the gravity of the moon

rolling the tide

unto the shore

Son, sleep tight for now

my sweet little dream

it may seem as though

my heart has gone

yet the first morning star

shall remind me where you are

when it lights the moon

then rises a new dawn

Author's Notes/Comments:

Dedicated to my cousin Joe Omar Lewis, live today not as if it's to be the first day to the rest of your life, but rather live it as if it's to be your last!

Leave nothing left unsaid to the ones you love.
