My mother was a flapper
back in ninteen twenty two
her hair was bobbed and curly
and was also tinted blue
She worked inside McCrories store
behind the candy bin
and the boys all liked my mother
for she was tall and slim
At the Charleston, she was very good
and other dances too
and she lways went each friday night
to dance an hour or two
Her hats all had fluffy feathers
and the fringes on her dress was neat
she had long black sparkley stockings
and high heels upon her feet
And she'd dance away the evening
in Orlando's big ball room
but they closed the door at midnight
whch to her was way too soon
But soon she met my Daddy
who was just an old farm boy
and he could not dance the Charleston
that which always brought her joy
He ask her then to marry him
and she wondered what to do
for if she married Daddy
there'd be no more high heeled shoes
But she really loved my Daddy
and told him she loved him very much
so she became a simple house wife
and lived her life as such
That was many, many years ago
and to them, their life was full and good
cause she taught my Dad the Charleston
which he never understood
Now inside my Mohers closet
was a trunk with rusty hinges
inside, a pair of sparkley hose and high heel shoes
and a black dress with lots of fringes
And on each year they were together
on their anniversery day
she looks at her clothes with no regret
of the life she gave away
Very entertaining, thanks for
Very entertaining, thanks for a look back to the olden days.
