She could boil up an old shoe sole

in the middle of the day

add a little salt and pepper

and a little leaf of bay

Put a little gravy on it

then put some on your plate

and you would swear to heaven

t'was the best you ever ate

There was't anything she couldn't cook

I never knew a thing

add a little red eye gravy

and would make your heart to sing

Her vegetables were famous

desserts, out of this world

her soup's and stew's and and home made bread's

would give your tongue a whirl

My mother was a farmer's wife

the finest cook I ever knew

and food was alway plenty

for all of it, my daddy grew

I wish that I could sit once more

at moms table there to eat

a delicious and home cooked meal

that no other cook could beat
