I can see why this one stuck with you. It's excellent! It seems really simple, but there's so much to it. The poem itself doesn't speak of a magician, but is implied through the title. That's cool. The "whisper, whisper, whisper" lines add an air of mystery to the character. Someone playful, if not mischievous, like a leprechaun or something of the sort. There's also a sense of unobtainable fantasy; the "flying away", going elsewhere, to a fantasy land, a childhood memory, or just a break from reality. I love this poem! http://PostPoems.com/members/keithwhitacre
The first strike of innocence! A masterpiece that conjure up childhood, youth, and the responsibilites of truth as an adult.
