I am a wave,
impenetrable, immovable,
shifting and agile,
deviously cresting -
A vampire on the balcony,
the stranger in the alley.
Sun dress playfully dancing,
she is crunching sand between
her delicately crooked toes -
dividing it, overpowering it.
Running, foaming, believing
I can reach
only to come up just
short
and slide back below
myself, loss of control
more tumbleweed than boulder
and I go unnoticed, again
rolling under myself only
to climb once more -
the hand of a clock
trying to reach what is
to the right
of the three.
The sand that she happily
manipulates with two toes
effortlessly rejects me
back
to where I can
look impenetrable,
unmoving.
