All I wanted was to give you more than a wink
But the world’s too large, and people too small
So I had to sit back and settle for a drink
And you probably stare and wonder what I think
as I sit quietly and sip on a high ball
But all I wanted was to give you more than a wink
Then you were gone and I started to sink
deeper into the plush chair I’d fall
And wondered why I only settled for a drink
I piece puzzle pieces, trying to find a link
between the words wrapped in a wall
of not speaking at all; so all I could do was wink
So it’s back to the drawing board I think
to attempt again the next time you call
All I wanted was to give you more than a wink
Next time I won’t even order the drink
