Unbroken silence---
over scorched earth, rubble of
buildings, corpses at
rot (many corpses at rot)---
was, itself, a loud outcry.

(aka, in 1974, FairyJerry)
Author's Notes/Comments:
Recent events have reminded me of the unspoken fear that many of us, especially where I resided(near a major military base), lived with as part of our daily routine: the possibility of nuclear apocalypse under the mutually assured destruction paradigm. Prior to October 13, 1975, my ambition was to be a writer of horror stories and science fiction; and this particular tale, which I worked on every day from late December, 1973, through November of 1974, ran to over one hundred fifty pages in double-spaced type. I took it back up in late June of 1976; but after July 10th of that summer, the evening on which J-Lore helped me find the handle Starwatcher, I understood that Poetry, and not prose, must be my venue.
During that year of 1974, I was often called FairyJerry in mockery and verbal insult/assault; I affix it here because that novela was also a reaction to that kind of bullying.
