At His Exit From Endor, Saul Vows To Stop The Steal

[after 1 Samuel, especially chapter 31]

That malcontent of Endor dared to take

me for a fool, by raising up a fake

Saul to tell me that my elected crown

shall be given to David (that upstart

string-plucker and boyfriend to Jonathan,

my eldest, bravest, and most loyal son).

At Mizpah, by a landslide, I came in

to kingship, to make our land great again.

And now God, Himself, wants to cast me down?

That seems, to me, like some subversives' ruse

(to which they think I should, quietly, yield)

a plot against me, hatched in some left field

by foreigners, or crooks that have been hired

to perpetrate lies, in whole or in part

as if official or prophetic news.

But I do not believe my people feel

such discontent, rage, and hostility

toward my reign---unique in our history.

My people will help me to stop this steal

with flames of power that say, You are fired.
