Perhaps you will explain this, Mallarme:
all of your poems seem quite detached from France's
daily events, politics, circumstances,
and other items from the headline news.
Your poems exclude all this; you seem to choose
the love of words and beauty, to convey
this through your verses in a timeless way.
Meanwhile, the facts---who governs France today;
the cost of living; factories' pollution---
these have no place within your Poetry,
and this art is not a democracy.
Promoting such an arrogant exclusion,
your Symbolist movement will not excite
a reader to exclaim, "What a good write!"
