Yet [*/+/^] : 27.225 MHz, Some Final Measures; Outside Of Town One Busy Friday Morning

This man once changed our water into wine.

Tell me what he has done that he must lose

his life upon a cross that bears the sign---

smug Pilate's written words---King of the Jews.

On either side of him, two shrieking thieves:

is this all that a man like him receives

for all his mighty miracles?--- that we

hear of in all the towns of Galilee,

where we work and live in humble abodes.

Even the travelers on Roman roads

become awe-struck when someone speaks his name.

For what sin does he suffer; for what shame?

And for whose stumble must he take the fall?---

nailed to old wood outside the city wall.

Author's Notes/Comments:

While we read the Gospel accounts with both faith and hindsight, those who actually witnessed Christ's crucifixion must surely have been horribly bewildered.  We see this in the Apostles, especially in Luke's and John's Gospels; but I suspect the bewilderment affected many people . . . multitudes.
