Author's Notes/Comments: 

When I looked into the prospect of membership, in 1986, I learned that adopted children and children born out of wedlock (my two disqualifications, they said) were considered equally unacceptible.  My family's surname has been a part of American History in New England and the midwest since approximately 1630.
