+ 27.225 MHz: On The Hymn, "Nearer, My God, To Thee"

Sung when the ship, Titanic, was about to sink,

it was a hymn that I, quite early, learned to play

on my piano.  But when comes the night or day

(sooner perhaps than thought) I reach the shadowed brink

of death---that fierce and final moment---my demise:

despite the laughing terrors that might seek to flay

my mind with garish tricks, their haunting perfidy

will not stumble my soul, released, to soar and rise

to Christ my Savior, and into His Heavenly

abode and His eternal garden, Paradise.

And as I feel His Power's gently wafting lift,

enveloped by the comfort of that soft bue shift,

I shall exclaim, in faith---My God, Nearer To Thee,

that Bright and Morning Star of Grace that summons me.

Author's Notes/Comments:

The hymn's lyrics was written by Sarah Flower Adams.

My poem alludes to several Scriptures:

line 4---Psalm 23

line 9---Ephesians 2:6

line 10---Luke 23:43

line 13---John 20:28

line 14---Revelation 22:16

The concept of the Doppler Blue Shift is, so they tell me, an indication of nearness, or of nearing.  I have used it here regarding Christ's final metaphor and description of Himself, in Revelation 22:16, as the Bright and Morning Star.
