Footnote: A Dead Soul In Clown Town

His hat---some rodent's

pelt; a "shootin' iron" and the

King James "Good Book":  these,

he thinks, identify his

manhood.  Sadly . . . they do not.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Lest the poem be accused of disrespect toward the Holy Bible, the subject of the poem is actually disrespecting the Bible by adding to it his headgear and his weapon in order to derive a sense of manhood from the combination.  The Bible transcends that kind of sloggy illogic; and, in my opinion, it is blasphemous to include it in such a construction.

The title of the Kyoka is a parody of Cordwainer Smith's science fiction tale,, "The Dead Lady Of Clown Town."
