The devil's attitude was rather snide---
all of his evil arising from pride:
he believed existence should entitle
him to those privileges God denied
him---all that the devil demanded
in a long rant, a tedious recital,
and by the other rebellious propaganded.
Unable to admit he was mistaken,
and that every shred of his bad dream was taken
(and though a prince, of the air, badly shaken),
he whispered words, from a serpentine head,
