Epigram On Young Poets' "Humble" Clauses

"My poems are not that good,"

your author page says (or some variation).

Why then, young, eager poet, would
you ask me to make allocation

of time from busy days to read
them?  If not that good, why the need

for me to tell you what you said

while my time bears the waste I dread.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I don't know if they say such things to be humble, or to forestall, perhaps, a feared lambast of hard criticism; but it is a stupid ploy to post poems, with the implied invitation to read, and then declare them, "Not that good."
