Jesus, God's Son---in flesh from Galilee;
though born in the small town of Bethlehem;
a carptenter working from Nazareth
(like his stepfather, skilled in the repair
of farm tools); had walked to Jerusalem
to stand before the Temple's and Rome's powers;
and, innocent, allowed them to condemn
Him to be crucified---tortured---six hours
(three under darkened skies until His death).
And by that sacrifice, He saved my soul
from long established, well-deserved damnation;
giving, instead, a joyous, firm Salvation
with His own Word as promise and foundation.
To be saved is God's geatest miracle
to us. Of course, some who have long known me
might wonder why the Lord would even care
or come to think that what I now can be
(despite a rather sordid history)
should have some small part in His Ministry.
