To Lady Certainly

First, common sense says---"Two sides to each story."

And that with which I blamed you failed to tell

the faith and love in you, the hope of glory,

your witness to the regnant Christ's salvation

to which you brought me; me---still bound for hell,

then, and a much deserved, sinful damnation.

Yes, you had a bad time that night:  so what?

It was a single incident, one spot

upon your past.  Really, what can that be

compared to your secured eternity---

the joy the born again will, then, have reached

as your Grandfather, and so many, preached.

To take one night's temper and give it blame

for other disappointments, to defame

you that way, without proof or firm foundation,

gives a objective, unspun demonstration

of my inate, carnal stupidity;

the brutal urge, not to reach out but lash

at the bonds more valuable than sums of cash;

and to take on myself the blush of shame.

I ask you in our living Savior's name---

forgive me for those lines, and words, misspent.

I am a saved fool, but know to repent.
