Lenin's Confession, Late In 1923

Some comrades chuckle at ths irony:

the locomotive of our history,

rushing at full steam, has run over me.

Ironic, too, is this too shaken hand

communicating for me in a scrawl;

for me, who once held absolute command

over the Russian masses---one and all.

The murder of four girls and one sick boy

(along with his dog) was politically

desirable:  meant to fully destroy

the old regime; and, also, to annoy

our enemies, and those whose loyalty

to our new order waivers, or is fickle.

But I confess---this purpose had another

motive that I desired more personally:

full vengeance for my executed brother.

To his revered and sacred memory:

I have raised up the whole U. S. S. R;

and for his sake we swing hammer and sickle;

and in his name shines forth our great Red Star.

Starward
