When Noah, finishing the ark,
saw the sky go from lowering gray
to storming swirl of rainbloated dark,
he told all those with him, that day,
"You need not leave. You can stay.
"Do not give in to paranoid fear.
"You are safe, being already here:
"all of us. We will not put out some
"because of where they have come from.
"We can make it, all together,
"despite the next forty days of bad weather."
(This poem, of course, refers to the lives
of Noah, his wife, their sons, and their sons' wives.)
