At The Palace Of Herod Antipas

[after Mark 6:22-28 and Matthew 11:28-30]

Herodias wanted to have her way

(for her purpose, the Baptist, John, was killed).

Herod, himself, just wanted Salome---

with her young limbs he was perversely thrilled.

And she, thirteen years old, fearful of rape

just wanted to find some means of escape.

(Joanna, Chuza's separated wife,

who had preferred a chaste disciple's life,

returned to help the anxious Princess flee.)

Using, once more, her adolescent charms.

she slipped past Herod's burly men at arms.

Then, with a most intent alacrity,

she came to Christ beside Lake Galilee,

and found the welcome that His Words convey.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I believe this is an original hypothesis, intended to shed light on the

appearance of Salome's name in the 15th and 16th chapters of

Saint Mark's Gospel.
