Epigram After J. V. Cunningham, 2

The barefoot girls (each one a splendid Muse)

become old crones in orthopedic shoes.

But as vivacious spring's coy tilt renews,

the poet finds successive generations

provide, in his old age, such inspirations

that banish disappointments that confuse,

and offer the profoundest delectations.
