Like toes sifting through sand catching nothing but grains of pain.

Soul mates She pays no mind to the darkening skies
The horizon thins to bands of midnight
and cool alabaster blue
the moon yet to Rise for company
As She makes her way through
the dark muddy waters
A veil of sadness over her chest
Falls down gently stirring
the surface of the glassy tides
Her toes carefully sift the silt
for a trace of her sunken heart.
The sadness pools around her feet
Dragging whirlpools of hope
pulling her back as she unwittingly travels deeper.
The love she cannot hold,
Tightly wrapped in another's fold
And as he chases her she chases him
But they are no match for the tides of fate
Turning for one last look
she sees three stars on the horizon
and blows them a kiss,
As she sinks and lay
With her drowned heart
Waiting for the tides to part.
