Ha ha, I never thought about it like that? yes thats a good name for it! I call it fighting fire with fire and venting! ;) some of it is offensive and it is designed for shock value others are comforting and what not. I am a good person with some bad desires and creative thoughts and lots and lots of empathy. I guess this is what happens SLAM poetry! I gues thats like political rap...? Im not sure but i visions of a rap battle lol. ok now one question... which ones are the slam poetry? ;p Lol!

Slam Poetry
SSmoothie, slam poetry actually is a genre of poetry. It started in Chicago, so I've heard, and basically it has to be impassioned and get a crowd rowdy. So yeah, people go to venues to hear this sort of thing in Chicago, so I've heard. Your describing it as "rap-battle" is a good definition - basically, its poetry, as a sport. We have those here on the streets, very casual like.
Boast bouts is what we call them locally and yes I believe it is originated from slam reading the links just colloquial differences. :) thank you kindly! SS

Soap box rhythm and poetry jams and all sorts
I live in an arty town in a 'shall remain nameless' place but it is nowhere in the US Though I have been there. In the town square poets stand on soap boxes, street kids stand on crates on the corner of busy streets. The police move them on from time to time when the crowds get too big and start spilling into the streets! lol! We don't have an inside place for it to happen, it just happens.
