My life has been very difficult for me. I’ve been trying to understand why I need to stay in school to better myself. My family says school is important, and that I should continue my attendance. I get confused sometimes, because they tell me this.



I wondered why they have not finished school themselves. Well, I always tell myself school is something that goes on forever. I get advice from my friends, and family about why school is important for everybody. They tell me their experiences and their reasons for not continuing school after high school or not even finishing high school. They explained to me how not completing school made their lives difficult, and how they struggled.

I grew up struggling with them, and I do not want to continue that pattern. I know I can better my life. I’m grateful for what my family can provide for me, but I feel I can do something for them, and for myself. So far I’ve been involved in off-Broadway shows, because I love acting. I am involved with after school programs, art, career, and poetry to educate me more. I do a lot of things to educate myself. If I don’t continue to educate myself I’ll just be following the same steps as my family. I want to be the one who is going to make a difference not only in my family, but in my life as well. I understand that education is the key to a promising future. When I look at my family and the people in my neighborhood I realize that education is the main reason they have not been as successful as they wanted to be in life. College is something I have been thinking about for long time. I’ve realized that without a college degree my options are limited. As of now, I would like to study acting. If given an opportunity, I believe I can reach my goals. “A mind is a terrible thing to waste” was once said, and I believe in those words. I have a clear vision in my mind showing me I need a path, and something to guide me. Achievement is something I strive for to help me survive these modern days of struggles. I know without a light to follow I’ll be lost. School has given me a path to walk on, and I plan to go on one step at a time. School is not all about learning, but understanding who you are, and what you want to become of yourself. That is why I know college will give me an opportunity to expand my knowledge, and help me become who I want to be as a person.
