THE MASK

If I tell you who I really am would you love me just the same?

Or if I reveal my hidden self, would you only give me shame?

To take one’s mask off is a scary thing to do.

Because when it happens the only one left is you.

I would tell you who I really am although sometimes I don’t know.

And even in my stable hours I struggle where to go.

We walk around, the human race, only showing just a part.

While the real us lies buried deep within our hearts.

I can tell you stories and could even tell you lies.

But the real me is often reflected in the shadow of my eyes.

Why am I afraid?  because you too, wear your mask.

And in revealing your true self, could be just as much a task.

And you told me you can't write poetry. If everyone else knew the full story behind this one, the would really be impressed. You did real good my bestest friend
