Monolith

Shifting through the courses

Riding bareback through and through

And there everything was, in front of me

But I couldn't raise my arm to grasp my prize

In another memory from long ago

I remember navigating the moss with caution

Creatures left and right, hissing at my person

I never really knew where I had been going

I can recall thousands of fluttering lights

In unison, they taunted and teased

I kept swinging, they continued to flutter

I fell unconscious after a final turn around

The melody that rings from within this awkward shape

Strings can compose and betray, whipping you across the face

Nothing can take away the ability they may contain

The right person finally came along to bring it on out

In the years that have gone by, I've built many a landmark

Scolding in my mind as it burned to the ground

The foundation was rather shoddy to begin with

But all other formats showed me more then enough mistakes

I was swimming through the desert sands

Encountering any and all that resided below

I have my share of souvenirs for you

The first being an eight-foot Komodo Dragon

I was surfing the Las Vegas powerlines

It was an unfortunate fall, right that second

While I glowed, I remembered my childhood wiring

I awoke, and couldn't recall my own mother's name

I was satisfied as I observed the Paris rooftops

Too many broken windows were in my view

I could skip and jet through the entire metropolis

But I'd rather gather the food for a fallen old woman

I've seen things among legendary text

The Vulcan was no match and Medusa froze at my gaze

I've walked a fine line these many days

I feel as if my lifetime wasn't as expendable as others

Every appendage has been sewn back on more then twice

Stitches give me personality and scars can tell stories

Surgery repairs while injury steals a year from your lifespan

Repairs provide a little hope while death is cinematic

Still living, not quite so much kicking

Smiling while rocking back and forth

With a kitten called Chase in my lap

I can stare at the sunset and remember

I've grown fond of napping

My knees ache with the slightest move

There's a lady inside who returns my adoration

And I've never felt more alive.
