Words

At the school yard when I was young,
dusting off the dirt, I stand up.
looking to the crowd in front of me
listening as they call me names
how I wanted to punch them
but remembered what my father said

words...they are just words
nothing more than that
so just ignore them
and move on.

My junior year of high school
the teacher assigned the class to write a poem
little did I know it would be the beginning
of many stories to come.
It seemed impossible as I stumbled through it.
I kept telling myself

words...they are just words.
Nothing more than that.
So just write them down
and move on.

Six months before I turned thirty
I sat there as the doctors told me the news.
At that moment I should have broke down.
But I am as stubborn as my parents
When asked how I smile after hearing the news
I tell them

words...they are just words.
Nothing more than that.
Learn to laugh when life brings you down
and move on.
