Summer Sixteen

We'll sit in the diner a while.

Deciding which dreams are worth keeping,

And which we should just discard.

And your eyes, they're still kind of weeping

For everything you had to leave behind.

The stars splash across the sky in brilliant disarray

While, I wish I could just hold you in my arms.

Mascara never did look good running down anyone's face,

But, tonight I think it does you justice.

We're both sipping cokes,

Our food uneaten...

Just praying something can lead us back to the day before.

And if you could

Would you change every mistake you've made?

And if you could,

Would you forget today and just have it back

Back to the Way it used to be?

The gas tank's running near empty...

And we've still got a million miles to go.

Because every stop we've taken,

You've told me was too close to home.

So, tonight we keep on driving

As far as the Santa Ana* wind blows us.

The loneliest of a desert highway

Our minds still back in that diner,

Where you decided that, whatever happened

You'd hold on to all your dreams.

And, I just wish I didn't have this lack of faith

That you don't seem to know.

And if you could

Would you change every mistake you've made?

And if you could,

Would you forget today and just have it back

Back to the Way it used to be?

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wanted something that sounded exceedingly emo.
