Missing a Beat

Today is like the others, no different from before.

Always keeping peace, who could ask for more?

But now you seem different, something feels so strange,

Even though seconds pass, your whole world shows change.

That pain, at first, which felt so distant,

Tearing left and right, hit in an instant.

You try to hold on to the door,

You lose grip, then your head hits the floor.

Bright light in the distance, not knowing what's in store,

You seem to drift, your heart beats no more.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this poem on the same day as I wrote "Middle Man" in April of 2009 to signify how it must feel, so lost in your surroundings, to actually pass away.
