you know, i don't think you're even trying

you used to be so much better at lying

you even fooled me once or twice

i guess i'll play along just to be nice

it's really kind of sad the way

neither of us believe anything you say

i'll just smile and nod my head

pretend i trust in everything you said

i'll laugh about it later all alone

or call up all my friends on the phone

and we'll giggle and snicker behind your back

about how you expected me to believe that

that you thought that i was really that dumb

and we'll joke about you for years to come

so throw me another line, i'm not buying

come on, it's like you're not even trying
