The Call

How would you like to go?

Asked the stranger

In a tone, deep and mellow

I don’t know I answered

Why do I have to go?

Where?

It is not your will

It is what has been ordained

Why then you ask

I said

Do your job and be done

He paused for a moment

And then something

Happened

It is not you

I look for

It is someone else

He turned and left

I woke up trembling

Wiped the beads

Off my brow

Then it struck

Like a lightening bolt

What if he comes calling?

But when?

Author's Notes/Comments:

It came as a fleeting thought but has so much of depth and like my friend put it " thought provoking"

This is quite soul stirring even though it borders on the mystical. May God Almighty bless you with a long life my dearest friend. The angel of death only takes our souls to God Almighty each and every night when we fall asleep (The Holy Qur'an confirms this) and those who are ordained to die do not return. My father passed away in this manner on the night of December 3rd-4th, 2007, but he went very peacefully. Let us not hearken the call dear buddy. The poem is quite moving and profound and I like it.
