The Promised Height (QUD AFALAH MUN TAZAKA)

Life seems eternal, life is sweet

Thank You Dear God for this lovely treat

The mind of man, has been put to use

There are distractions, one cannot refuse

Shopping malls, Discos and Leisure centres galore

T.V,Cinemas, Movies as never before

The pursuit of flesh and an unquenchable lust

Devious desires and immorality labelled as just

The love of this world, to it, makes us cling

Dance with with joy and merrily sing

Moving farther and farther away from the task

A question seldom anyone does ask

We drifted from the path, somewhere, cannot recall

Lost in the beauty of this world, and bound to fall

From the promised heights of glory

Such is our life, such our story

Author's Notes/Comments:

The Holy Quran says Qud Afalah Mun Tazaka i.e We (God) wanted man to rise to heights but the love of the world made him cling to it and alas it is not eternal in chapter 87 verse 13. I was so moved by the verse and it is a humble effort on my part to let people know that this world and all of us have an end and that we need to redefine our priorities rather than appear before HIM on judgement day empty handed.

The poet, my closest human friend in these dreaded times, has tried to inspire the 'unattainable heights' through his passionate and emotional poem.
However, I would like to refer the Sura-e-Teen to him, which says "We created Man in the best of moulds/Then reduced him to the lowest low...save those who do good works..."
ONLY MISFITS -- LIKE ME AND YOU -- FIT IN THIS CATEGORY. For further elaboration I would like my friend to ponder on Mirza Ghalib's unforgettable : "NAA THAA KUCH TOU KHUDA THAA/KUCH NA HOTA TOU KHUDA HOTA...DUBAAYA MUJHKO HONE NE/ NAA HOTA MEIN TOU KYA HOTA....
KYA HOTE? BATAO?
