Darkness

Secular Poetry

Soft rains fall outside my window

Their song mingling with these bitter tears

A broken sigh escapes my lips

As I gaze upon the darkened skies

Longing for something more

To escape the pain that waits on the morrow.

The clouds part and the moon peeks out

Offering some silent comfort,

But nothing now can heal the scars

Forever marring this broken heart.

A cool wind ruffles the leaves on the trees

I shudder, chilled to the bone.

Night gives way to morning

Day fades into night

But my heart knows only darkness.

A lonely weariness invades my body

Enveloping my heart and soul.

Lying back against the pillows

Strewn across this bed of stone

I close my eyes, hoping for a peaceful dream

As sleep slowly draws me into its warm embrace.

The imagery in this poem is beauiful though sad. You wrote the pain of this very well. This is definitely one of my favorite poems you've written, I love it and I can relate.
