One Last Breath

So afraid-

So afraid.

Heart beating

In her throat

Fear gripping

Twisting, wrenching

Legs like lead

Wanting to run

So afraid-

So afraid.

He's coming for her

He's coming for her

Yelling her name

Fists clenched

Face red with rage

So afraid-

So afraid.

Breathing heavy

Tears cascading

Crying hysterically

So afraid-

So afraid.

Hiding from view

Don't want to be found

Unable to face

His horrible wrath

So afraid-

So afraid.

Terror clenching

Screams escape

He approaches her

Fire in his eyes

Drawing back his hand

Hitting her hard

Over and over

Again and again

So afraid-

So afraid.

Tears that fall

Spilling onto reddened cheeks

Painful scars

Bruises dark

Contrast against her skin white with fear

Terror unleashed

Raw

Clawing at her heart

Blackness descends

When she awakes

He's no longer there

So afraid-

So afraid.

Bittersweet tears

Staining her cheeks

Grinding the ground

Marring her soul

Unable to move

Lying helpless

On the floor

Wishing she

Had fought him off

Wishing she

Could only die

So afraid-

So afraid.

Fear

Encompassing her world

Her heart

Her everything

All remaining strength

Seeps from her limbs

Rising to her feet

She walks to the edge

So afraid-

So afraid.

Leaning over the brink

Of that highest cliff

Staring down

At the sea

Far below

Waves crashing

Against sharpened stones

So afraid-

So afraid.

Unable to bear

Her fear anymore

Bruises and scars

Too painful to wear

Lifting her arms

High, high

Above her head

Leaping, leaping

Off the ledge

Into the open arms

Of the deceptive seas

Nothing, nothing

No fear-

No fear.
