Laying on my back
in the sun
feeling the earth
beneath me as it turns
Knowing that just a few days ago
you were here in this very spot
and the ground is still
warm where you sat beside me
and I can roll over
to feel your presence in the warmth
Wishing words would come
to say I am at peace
just knowing you were here
with me only days ago
Watching the sun playing shapes
on the screen of my eyelids
in shades of red and orange
and when I open them
I swear I’ve never seen the sky
so frighteningly blue
without a cloud in sight
and I swear
it’s all for you
And me the poet
sleeping with his notebooks
in the spot his love once occupied
in the grass with leaves in his hair
Fallen asleep with pen in hand
to dream with a certain smile
reserved only for you
