An Hour Of Sighs

I lie awake because I cannot dream
I say your name because I cannot scream
It's all so confusing
It's all so confusing
It's not who we are that changes
But who we want to be
But you don't hear me

So slowly did the time pass by
And you lightly closed your eyes
The consequences true love brings
Well I've said some better things
Well I've said some better things

Now frustration allows
A chance to truly fail
How can I make up an hour
The human heart's too frail
It's all so confusing
It's all so confusing
It's not who we are that changes
But who we used to be
But you don't see me

Then the vase fell down
And the rose hit the ground
It's what we never had
But the rose is still sad

It's not who we are that changes
But who we have to be
And I am changing

So slowly did the time pass by
And you could've said good-bye
The consequences true love brings
Well I've said some better things
Well I've said some better things

Should we have to change for true love to last?

The poem left me thinking about past relationships and the need to feel that we need to change to make them work. I feel that people fundamentally don't change, but we learn to act like our loved one's want us to act, and that is the illusion of change.

The image of the fallen roses was a beautiful touch.

I loved it.

Keep writing
