As The Years Go By

Folder:
2006

When you're born, time is your best friend;

You can see your entire life ahead of you.

When you're 18, your innocence is at an end;

The path you will take finally comes into view.

When you get married, time is no longer on your side;

Your spouse, and then your children, make that a certainty.

As they grow older, so do you; to yourself you've lied,

Thinking that time would wait for you, with a guarantee

That you would be forever young. As the years go by,

You find that you're wrong; Time waits for no one.

Your children leave home,  and you have to say goodbye

As they see the harsh truth; your job is done.

When you retire, and you grow old and grey,

You finally see an end to the path you've taken;

The grave is now but a stone's throw away,

And Time has become your enemy, be not mistaken.

You're lying on your deathbed, the end is in sight,

You look back on your life as it has come to be:

You're born, you grow up, you work day and night,

You take a mate, have kids, and then you die; ces't la vie.

You close your eyes, take your last breath,

And pass away from this world, knowning one thing to be true:

Time never stops or changes, from your birth to your death;

As the years go it becomes clear that time is against you.
