Life's Too Short

Folder:
2002

Life's too short to look for an oasis in a sea of chaos,

Because we never know what's waiting around the bend for any of us;

Too many people are emigrating to the Land of Confusion,

Because they all have found that Utopia is nothing but an illusion.

I start my day hearing about all the bad news of the day,

Wishing it could disappear with a magic wand someway:

Suicide bombings in Jerusalem, innocent blood on the sands;

World leaders holding death in the palms of their hands.

Stock markets falling on fears of imminent collapse,

Opressed nations lashing out from despotic relapse.

My world's not the same as it was even a year ago;

Who knows what it will be like a year or so?

Life's too short to wait for the best things in life anymore,

Because we've always known that opportunity doesn't knock on every door;

Not enough people are coming to the realization

That they will end up destroying their own civilization.

Depending on what you believe, you only get one life to live;

Some of us regret that they only have one live to give.

Seventy-five years, give or take a few, is all we get on Planet Earth,

But none of us are guarranteed any length of time from birth.

Too many things to do and see, too many people to meet and be,

But there's not enough time for all this and more: ah, 'tis more the pity

That we waste our time on fame and glory and other foolish things,

Because money and power won't save us when the fat lady sings.

Life's too short to waste our time on things that no one cares about,

Because we're all trying to keep what we can't live without.

All of us want to be loved and needed, and never to be alone,

Because it's not the same as making out on the telephone.

I end my day tuning out all the bad news of the day,

Because there's a five-o-clock world waiting for me to come in and play.

Movies to go to, to escape reality without really leaving it;

Music to listen to, played by bands who are really into it;

Many shades of nightlife for me, to get lost in the crowd,

Where it's okay if I get a bit obnoxious or loud.

My five-o-clock world's mine alone to change, or leave the same:

It's making the time to play that puts me ahead of the game.

Life's too short to keep an eye on what everyone cares about,

Because there's no point in keeping what you can live without.

None of us want to be hated and rejected, and not to live in scorn,

Because no one should be forced to live and die alone.

When Death finally comes, we might find we never really lived;

Rich or poor, sick or well, I guess it's all relative.

Some of us are lucky to find that death is only the beginning,

But for most of us the Grim Reaper is the only one who's winning.

So as all of you are dancing about in your everyday lives,

Try to remember the things from which your happiness thrives;

One day you're here, next day day you're gone: cest la vie.

Life's too short...Carpe diem, make your life extraordinary!!!
