The Ache of Rain

Oregon in Autumn
fuses lavendar elixir
recalling to mind,
love’s aching crescendo
reflections frozen numb
and once upon a time
framed within his eyes,
I succumb

Verity seems to siphon roses,
pleading with the mourning dove
I find myself craving to be her,
gliding grey over meadows toward
the edges of forgetfulness

For now, the storm has finally passed
and still, I fly alone
peach and purple ribbon draped sky at last
even the rain can’t hide his tears,
I feel them soak deeply,
still lingering here
